Radiation
  • 1. divergence from a common center.
  • 2. a structure made up of divergent elements, as one of the fiber tracts in the brain.
  • 3. energy transmitted by waves through space or through some medium; usually referring to electromagnetic radiation when used without a modifier. By extension, a stream of particles, such as electrons, neutrons, protons, or alpha particles.

Radiation Treatment
[Dr. Schulze]

Localized, pinpoint radiation is like a shotgun blast. There's no such thing.

Because it damages the tissue all around it. This woman had the radiation treatment. I couldn't talk her out of it. It burned out the walls between her rectum and her vagina. And fecal matter was pouring out of her vaginal opening. Okay, this is your localized treatment!

This is your pinpoint radiation, scientific, high-tech, laser-guided, smart bomb radiation treatment.

We would have been better off with a small charge of C4 plastic explosive. I mean, they blew this woman open. They took out that wall, and what do you get? You get fecal matter going to the vagina. That's going to be really nice for infection and cancer. Now, this woman never got the chance to do the natural treatment. She's not alive.

Radical
  • 1. Directed to the cause; directed to the root or source of a morbid process, as radical surgery.
  • 2. A group of atoms which enters into and goes out of chemical combination without change, and which forms one of the fundamental constituents of a molecule. Organic radicals are symbolized R.

Radioactivity
The quality of emitting or the emission of corpuscular or electromagnetic radiations consequent to nuclear disintegration, a natural property of all chemical elements of atomic number above 83, and possible of induction in all other known elements.

RDA
Recommended Daily Allowance

[Dr. Christopher]

The RDA also allows for a wide margin of safety. (The committee that decides the RDA meets once a year and decides the current RDA for the year. This standard fluctuates considerably with the type of people present and is based largely on monitory research grants which can be made available to the various standard "setters.")

Rebalancing
An offshoot of Rolfing, this therapy combines sensitive deep tissue massage, joint release, energy balancing and verbal dialogue to relieve physical pain and tension, facilitate emotional healing and enhance relaxation. Founded in 1980 by a group of therapists and practitioners of various backgrounds, including Rolfing, postural integration, psychotherapy, pulsation, Trager and craniosacral.

Rebirthing
Bodywork method that utilizes breathing techniques to alter the normal state of consciousness and pass through emotional blockages or overcome traumatic memories. Centers on the belief that conflicts or illnesses in adulthood stem from early childhood trauma. Rebirthing was started in the 1970s by Leonard Orr and Dr. Stanislav Grof, and draws on the Indian yoga science of breath, pranayama.

Red Clover
Red clover is a common purple flower that grows in fields all across America. Red clover is used by honey makers to add a mild, sweet taste to their honey. Red clover contains vitamin A, vitamin C, B-complex, calcium, chromium, iron and magnesium. Red Clover has been used for over 100 years to purify the blood and relieve inflammation and coughing.

Red clover is best known as a blood purifier, expelling toxins from the bloodstream. It also cleans and improves the overall health of the liver and kidneys. Red clover also increases the production of mucus and urine flow helping relieve irritation and inflammation of the urinary tract.

As a digestive aid, red clover stimulates the production of digestive fluids and bile. It also relieves constipation and helps soothe inflammation of the bowel, stomach and intestines.

A good expectorant, red clover calms coughs related to bronchitis, whooping cough, dry cough and colds. It has been known to relieve sore throats as well.

Red clover's antispasmodic properties are a good sedative to relax muscle cramping and nervous exhaustion.

Furthermore, red clover's antibiotic properties are beneficial in the treatment of skin irritations and inflammations.

Redox
In biological systems, removal or addition of an electron constitutes the most frequent mechanism of oxidation-reduction reactions. These oxidation-reduction reactions are frequently called redox reactions.

Reduction
Reduction means the addition of an electron (e-).

The addition of an electron, reduction, stores energy in the reduced compound. Whenever one substance is reduced, another is oxidized.

Reflexology
A massage technique performed on the feet, and less commonly on the hands, to correct "imbalances" in the body. Works on the premise that our energy zones correspond to reflex points at the body surface. Reflexology is as old as acupuncture, but was formally introduced in America by Dr. William Fitzgerald in 1913. Further research by Eunice Ingham led to a "map" of the body, identifying the reflex areas of the feet. Considered beneficial for both preventing and treating diseases, it is especially effective for digestive and menstrual problems, fatigue, stress and stress-related disorders and chronic conditions. Zone Therapy, the term used prior to reflexology, is also used to describe a "form" of reflexology.

[Dr. Stoll]

The body is made like a Hologram. As you know, a Hologram is made by using Laser light in such a way that the film that is produced has all the information imprinted on every molecule of photographic emulsion on the film. You can cut the film in half and, when one half is projected, the entire image is still there. You can cut it into 10 pieces and, projecting one of the pieces, the entire image is STILL there! As the pieces get smaller, and smaller, the image gets more, and more, insubstantial. However, theoretically, if you COULD project one molecule, all the image would STILL be there--just VERY hazy.

You say: "What does this have to do with Reflexology?"

Well, there is a map of the ENTIRE BODY on the soles of the feet, the palms of hands, the ears (Auricular Acupuncture), the irises (Iridology), the teeth (Odontons), etc.. Theory states that there are probably maps on the SURFACE of every organ in the body. The "Homunculus" is the map on the surface of the brain that has been known by medical anatomists for more than 50 years.

Reflexology utilizes the map on the soles of the feet. By massaging (in a certain way) the places on the feet, that correspond to the organs in that location of the map, those organs can be influenced.

Reiki
An energy therapy intended to affect the biofield that surrounds and infuses the body. Reiki is the Japanese word for "universal life" and is intended to promote physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. Reiki is believed to have evolved as a branch of Tibetan Buddhism. According to writings, the secrets of Reiki power disappeared until the late 19th century when Japanese theologian Dr. Mikao Usui came upon some ancient Sanskrit manuscripts and "rediscovered" the healing system. Reiki practitioners transmit energy by a light touch, placing their hands gently in specific positions on the body. Reportedly effective for most emotional, physical, and spiritual conditions, including some considered untreatable through conventional medicine.

Ribonucleic acid
RNA; the nucleic acid in which the sugar is ribose, constituting the genetic material in the RNA viruses and playing a role in the flow of genetic information. Ribosyl moieties are linked via phosphate groups attached to their 5' and 3' hydroxyl groups to form the backbone of a linear polymer, with purine and pyrimidine bases attached to the sugars as side chains. The characteristic bases adenine (A), uracil (U), cytosine (C), and guanine (G) are specified by the presence of thymine (T), A, G, and C, respectively, in the gene being transcribed. Many RNA molecules contain bases modified by posttranscriptional processing (methylation, deamination, isomerization), and some contain secondary structure such as base pairing between self-complementary sequences, which stabilizes specific conformations.

Ribose
An aldopentose found in riboflavin and ribonucleic acid (RNA) as well as in free ribonucleosides and ribonucleotides

Rolfing
Often called a deep-tissue therapy and sometimes massage, Rolfing is more accurately defined as a holistic form of education and manipulation of the way gravity impacts the human body. Originally called structural integration, Rolfing was pioneered by American biochemist Dr. Ida Rolf. Rolf recognized that a poorly aligned body does not promote the flow of gravity. She maintained that when one part of the body is out of balance, the rest of the body attempts to compensate until the entire structure is weakened. Rolfing can improve posture through the manipulation of the myofascial system, while at the same time easing pain and chronic stress and in general enhancing well-being.

Rosacea
Is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the central portion of the face, characterized by redness, pimple-like lesions, and prominent small blood vessels. It is most common in middle-aged women and can be associated with eye symptoms of redness and inflammation. Migraine headaches and facial flushing are common in patients with rosacea, indicating there is some kind of vasodilation reaction. If untreated, rosacea can lead to overgrowth of tissue, especially of the nose, sometimes leading to an enlarged and deformed nose.

The underlying cause has not been identified, but people with rosacea often have low levels of B vitamins, stomach acid and pancreatic enzymes. There is also evidence that a skin mite called Demodex folliculorum may be a causative factor. Rosacea is often made worse by the consumption of hot or spicy foods, alcohol, tea, coffee, other hot beverages, heat, cold, excessive sunlight and niacin (a form of vitamin B-3).

Rose Hips
Rose hips are one of the most natural and abundant sources of vitamin C. Once the petals have fallen off a rose all that remains attached to the stem is the rose hip, also known as the dried fruit of the rose. Besides being a major supplier of vitamin C, rose hips also contain vitamin E, vitamin K, riboflavin, and folate.

Rose hips help the body defend itself against infections, especially colds and flus, by stimulating the immune system. Rose hip's anti-inflammatory properties are also useful in relieving inflammation caused by sore throats and skin irritations.

The astringent properties of rose hips also make it beneficial for treating diarrhea, bladder, and kidney problems.

Considered to be a great body tonic, rose hips help combat exhaustion, as well as alleviate stress and nervousness.

Rosen Method
Non-invasive therapy that utilizes gentle touch and verbal communication. Named for Marion Rosen, a German-born physiotherapist who discovered that clients who verbalized their sensations and emotions during treatment sessions improved more quickly than those who did not. Touch is used to detect areas of muscular contraction, areas Rosen referred to as "holding breath." This technique enhances self-awareness and is effective for chronic health conditions.
